Use your voice, so that others will listen.
Since 1950, the St. Louis Arc has been a voice for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. During this time we have been teaching our families about the importance of telling their stories to the community at-large. These personal stories energize our friends, neighbors, and government officials to take action towards a more inclusive community.
Ways to Advocate
- Educate yourself about disability-related issues.
- Share information with friends, co-workers, and loved ones. This could be done using personal discussions, book clubs, or social media.
- Join the St. Louis Arc’s Young Friends, or sit on one of the Arc’s committees.
- Write a letter or meet with a policy maker.
- Send holiday cards to your legislators with updates about your loved one with a disability.
- Get involved with your local government. Find out who your legislators are and get involved.
- Sign up for our Arc Advocates electronic newsletter.
- Vote in local, state, and national elections.
The St. Louis Arc is relationship-focused because we know how crucial it is to understand someone else’s point of view. The more people know about your story, the more they will empathize and take action. Contact [email protected]to find out how you can start having an impact today.
