Capable Kids and Families
What do you need to help your child learn and grow?
Capable Kids and Families (R) is a new program designed to promote early intervention by providing children (ages 0-6) and families with developmentally appropriate toys and therapeutic equipment free-of-charge, connecting families to community resources that meet their needs and facilitating network building and supportive friendships among parents.
Services Provided by Capable Kids and Families
Therapeutic Toys and Equipment Lending
We have access to more than 1,700 pieces of therapy equipment for use by families. Families are encouraged to consult with their child's therapist for equipment recommendations in the following areas: gross and fine motor, speech and language development, sensory integration, ability switches and adapted toys, visual and auditory processing, cognitive development and problem solving, positioning and mobility. All equipment and developmental toys are loaned to families free-of-charge for as long as it is needed! View Our Capable Kids and Families Equipment Catalog.
Community Playgroup Activities
Family playgroups are held on the first Friday and third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. at the St. Louis Arc Family Center. They provide a fun way for children and caregivers to make connections with others. Learn more by clicking here!
Access to Community Resources
A trained family support specialist will visit the family regularly in their home to listen; our goal is to help the family assess their child's and their family's needs and desires for support. With expert knowledge of the St. Louis service landscape, this specialist will provide information and referral to appropriate community resources and, if needed, will help parents in accessing formal services from a wide range of providers.
