At the St. Louis Arc, we believe in giving back to our community. That’s why we were so pleased to be able to take part in Variety’s “Bikes for Kids” event, held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis’s Mark Twain Athletic Facility.
Seven volunteers from the Arc’s Neighborhood Experiences program took part in the volunteer opportunity, helping assemble bicycles for special-needs children throughout the St. Louis area. Our Neighborhood Experiences program focuses on providing young people with developmental disabilities volunteer opportunities, which help prepare them for future paid jobs and careers. Neighborhood Experiences receives funding from Variety, so we were proud to pitch in and help one of our supporters.
Through Bikes for Kids, more than 2,200 bicycles have been delivered to children throughout our community. The day was a true win-win, for the children supported by Variety and in turn for the people we support here at the Arc.
