For several months, Signers Socials have been a popular program at the North County Community Integration site. They are a great way for the people we support to practice their sign language skills, sign with others and even learn new words. However, the Signers Social held on December 17 was truly special.
The crowd of several dozen people got a surprise treat when Santa Claus himself took time out of his very busy schedule to drop by the meeting. As it turns out, jolly old St. Nick is fluent in sign language. He signed the group the favorite holiday story ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. After the story, he shared with the group as they celebrated the spirit of the season.
The group was made up of the people we support and St. Louis Arc staffers, but it also included people from other agencies and from throughout the community. All took part together in the fun and all had a great time.
The St. Louis Arc would like to thank student volunteers from Florissant Valley Community College. The women, who are in a second-year sign language class, shared their expertise with the people who attended the Signers Social with Santa. We appreciate them and their talents!
